The resurfacing process

Today in Europe one in three tires used by commercial vehicles is a retreaded tire.

Bandag has been a world leader in cold retreading for over 50 years. Since 2006, Bandag has been part of the Bridgestone Corporation group. Bandag tires comply with the international standards in force, just like new tires.

The resurfacing process

STEP 1: Initial inspection assesses the safety of the housing

STEP 2: Non-destructive inspection checks invisible safety-related elements. The new TH TIRES production facility uses the most advanced equipment to detect problems invisible to the naked eye.

STEP 3: Retreading restores the tire's dimensions and perfect balance. The process is automated, providing the best results every time.

STEP 4: grinding and filling operations repair and repurpose the casings

STEP 5: construction (adding the new tread) is also done with automated machinery, ensuring maximum precision of the process.

STEP 6: Vulcanization fixes the tread to the casing.

STEP 7: Final inspection focuses on safety and appearance.

Bandag machines - the most modern technology available

The nail hole detector is a state-of-the-art machine that checks and detects any punctures in tire components that might be overlooked during the initial inspection.

The Bandag shearograph inspection is performed to determine the condition of the casing. Vacuum difference is used, while lasers measure any possible anomalies (separations / trapped air between components). The process is done in a single step for all areas of the tire, and any anomalies are simulated through an animation to be easily identified.

The retreading and building processes are fully automated. These machines ensure the best standards for the tread application process. Thanks to them, the new tire will be safe, reliable and have the best uniformity characteristics.
