DAF XF, XG and XG⁺ trucks awarded International Truck of the Year title
DAF’s new generation of long-haul trucks has been named “International Truck of the Year 2022”. “The XF, XG and XG⁺ set a new industry standard in terms of efficiency, safety and driver comfort,” said the jury after an extensive series of tests. The prestigious award was presented at the Solutrans truck and transport exhibition in Lyon, France. In addition, DAF received the “Truck Innovation Award 2022” for its innovative XF truck with hydrogen combustion engine.
Based on the rules for the International Truck of the Year (IToY), the annual award is given to the truck that was launched in the past year and has made the most significant contribution to road transport efficiency. This assessment is based on a wide range of criteria, including technological innovation, comfort, safety, manoeuvrability, fuel economy, environmental footprint and total cost of ownership (TCO).
A first in the field
“DAF is the first truck manufacturer to launch a completely new generation of trucks, developed taking into account the new European regulations for truck weights and dimensions,” said Gianenrico Griffini, chairman of the jury for the “International Truck of the Year” competition. “The result is a series of very attractive and highly aerodynamic trucks that offer first-class efficiency, safety and driver comfort. The new XF, XG and XG⁺ offer excellent direct visibility, ensured by a large, curved windscreen, side windows with low boundary lines and a kerbside window. These features – together with the digital visibility system that replaces traditional door mirrors and the new cornering camera – provide an all-round view, protecting vulnerable road users.”
A true team effort
The prestigious “International Truck of the Year 2022” award was presented to Harry Wolters, President of DAF Trucks, who dedicated it to all of DAF’s more than 12,000 employees worldwide. “This unique achievement is a true team effort! The new generation XF, XG and XG⁺ represent the biggest innovation project in our company’s more than 90-year history. It is the result of careful listening to our customers and their drivers, a clear vision of the future of durable and sustainable transport solutions and extra efforts made to offer the best possible transport solutions. We are truly the first truck manufacturer to fully utilize the new European regulations on truck weights and dimensions to offer our customers unique benefits. It is good to be first, but it is even better to be unique.”
In conclusion, IToY jury chairman Gianenrico Griffinini said: “With the launch of its new generation of trucks, DAF has delivered a range of high-tech, heavy-duty vehicles that sets a new benchmark in the industry. Furthermore, it is future-oriented, as it also represents a complete and highly energy-efficient platform for new generations of transmissions and alternative energy sources.”
The International Truck of the Year jury is made up of 24 commercial vehicle editors and senior journalists representing the most important international truck and transport press titles.
