EVW Holding has new partners in achieving the position of market leader in Romania!
The changes in EVW Holding began in the first months of 2019, when Gheorghe Chita became the sole shareholder of the company, after the former partners (Ad van Wijk, Mircea Muresan and Gheorghe Chita) decided to separate so that each of them could get 100% involved in the business they feel closest to and are best at.
In the truck sales and service network company (over 20 years old), the current CEO, Gheorghe Chita, has been very involved emotionally, and he wants EVW Holding to develop a high-performance management team and reach a position similar to its potential, as such he saw in the current partners at Turbos Hoet some strong allies in gaining even more ground on the truck market in Romania.
Since spring 2019, Turbos Hoet has bought 50% of the shares of EVW Holding. Piet Wauters, CEO of TH Group, says: “When Gheorghe Chita – whom we have known for a long time, because we have been partners in TH Romania, the company that sells turbochargers here – asked me if I was interested in a joint venture, we were very excited about this project, especially since Romania has always been an interesting challenge for us, because we could not enter this market since DAF works with only one distributor in each country.”

Turbos Hoet Group, headquartered in Hooglede (Belgium), has over 40 years of experience in the sale of new and used trucks and in the distribution of spare parts, being the leader on the European turbocharger market in 2017, with sales of around 62,000 units. With 970 employees, TH Group is active in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia, Poland, Romania and Belarus. At the same time, the Belgian company is the largest DAF dealer in the world, with 4,150 new trucks delivered in Europe: around 1,000 in Belgium, 850 in France, 650 in Bulgaria (here it was the market leader for two consecutive years with a 23% share), 400 in Belarus (where it has been the leader for many years and has a 32% share) and 700 in Russia.
The partnership with TH Group comes with numerous advantages for EVW Holding clients and future partners:
- Possibility of renting used commercial vehicles for a period between 6 and 36 months;
- High stock availability for both new and used vehicles, considering that TH represents approximately 7% of DAF's global production;
- Aggressive prices on parts but also new suppliers in the EVW portfolio;
- Service support, ITS, towing and warranties in all countries where TH has service workshops, especially in the north of France and the transition to the UK, areas where Romanian customers have encountered difficulties in the past;
- Internal financing is another topic that is in our attention, a topic that will soon become a reality and a weapon in the market battle;
- The development of the dismantling division is another project being worked on during this period.
In Romania, DAF tractor unit sales are at the same level as last year, at European level, according to the first 8 months, DAF continues the upward trend in the tractor unit market (20% market share) and remains constant in the rigid market. The decrease in the transport offer in Germany, the mobility package and the increase in drivers' salary income are the most important challenges we face this year and certainly next year. The used vehicle market has become extremely volatile in terms of prices against the backdrop of an extremely large offer at European level. By the end of the year we will be faced with predominantly retail sales and EVW's focus is to optimize and reduce the stock of new vehicles but also of "young" used vehicles.
EVW Holding continues to invest in the service network, both through the opening of new locations and through the development of existing ones or the transition to its own locations in the area where it is currently rented. At the same time, the focus will also be on the development of the dealer in Chisinau and on obtaining a better market share in the Republic of Moldova. EVW Holding continues the collaboration with VDL, which started some time ago and has developed very well, in the first 7 months of this year over 100 coaches and buses were sold, VDL is a brand with global potential and they come with know-how on the electrical side.
